Dads at Groove!

Groove prides itself in being the perfect blend of festival fun for kids and adults of all tastes and ages, and we’ve got something for everyone lined up at this year’s festival. With Father’s Day fast approaching, we’ve taken a look at just some of the things to do for dads at Groove. So forget the socks and dodgy gift sets, and treat your dad to something that he’ll really enjoy (just make sure you book two tickets so you can too!).

Music

Primal Scream: Every so often a band encapsulates and epitomises an entire generation. Formed in 1984 and winners of the first ever Mercury Music Prize for 1991’s ‘Screamadelica’, Primal Scream are that band. No matter what walk of life you came from in your youth, it’s almost a certainty that Scream soundtracked a part of it. We can’t wait to have them grace our main stage and we expect you feel the same way too!

UB40 ft. Ali, Astro & Micky39 years after they came together, UB40 have managed not only to span across multiple generations, but also to inspire each one with positive messages and captivating reggae undertones, all while staying relative. This is one not only for the dads, but for the kids too.

Cry Before Dawn:

Formed in 1982, Cry before Dawn are fighting with strawberries for the grand title of Wexford’s proudest export. Not unlike strawberries, CBD have survived the harsh Irish climate to blossom into a juicy, refreshing burst of flavour, finding solace in the homes and hearts of thousands nationally and internationally alike, making them a steadfast of Irish and UK charts throughout the 80’s and 90’s, with a return in 2013.

Rather than rambling on to your children about how “music was better in your day”, why not bring them to Groove and show them who you’ve been talking about.

Food

Whether your dad enjoys a straight up meat feast, something a little bit more adventurous, or even a dose of healthy eating, he will be well fed at Groove Festival.  We have some of Dublin’s heaviest hitting street food vendors gracing Killruddery with their favourite festival fayre: BBQ Blasta, Box Burger, Korean Jaru and a firm dad favourite Boojum.  If your dad is a cooking whizz (or maybe more so if he’s not!), get him down to the Thrive zone for the line up of cooking demos and talks from some of Ireland’s leading chefs.

Activities

No matter what your age, there’s something undeniably attractive about taking on the role of a hamster in a giant inflatable ball, zorbing in perhaps the most beautiful setting of Killruddery Gardens. Dad’s will love the line up of outdoor activities available at Groove, from archery, zip lining to the famous climbing wall, there’ll be the perfect challenge to take on your ole man.

Beer

It could almost be considered sacrilege to write an article highlighting the father-friendly aspects of Groove without mentioning the star of any festival lineup; beer. Whether it’s after a long day of zorbing, climbing & archery, winding down to the sounds of your favourite act, or to ease the pain of the fact that your child somehow convinced you to get a unicorn painted on your face; we acknowledge the fact that you deserve a nice cold beer!

Whether your tastes lean towards the soothing creaminess of a Guinness, or the crisp and flavoursome undertones of a Hop House 13, we’ve got you covered!

Despite all the great activities we have lined up for you, if you’re lucky enough to be Grooving with your dad, you’ll make all your own memories.

Book your tickets here and surprise that special person this Sunday!
